TOPPS — Train Operators to Promote best Practices and Sustainability
TOPPS is a pan-European initiative that trains sprayer operators, advisors and public bodies to protect water from plant protection products. Greece joined the TOPPS Water Protection phase in 2015, implemented jointly by the Hellenic Crop Protection Association and the Department of Agriculture Crop Production and Rural Environment of the University of Thessaly.

About the project
The TOPPS family of projects started in 2005 under the EU LIFE programme and continued with ECPA funding: TOPPS-EOS (2010) on the environmental optimisation of spray equipment, TOPPS prowadis (2011–2014) on diffuse sources such as spray drift and run-off, and TOPPS Water Protection (2015–2018), the phase in which Greece took part alongside 13 other member states.
In Greece the project delivered training days and events for farmers, agronomists and public bodies in Thessaly and across the country, and translated and distributed the Best Management Practice booklets and guides in Greek from 2016 onwards.
