To mark World Bee Day on 20 May, the Horizon Europe project BUTTERFLY, in which the Laboratory is a partner, released the very first issue of its newsletter. Pollinators may be small, yet they connect flowers and food, landscapes, economies and people, and the new newsletter invites readers to look at them more closely.

The issue brings stories from the project’s Living Labs in Italy, the Netherlands, France, Spain and Curaçao, and reflections on how artificial intelligence may transform the future for pollinators. It also takes a look beneath our feet with the partner project ProPollSoil, in which the Laboratory also takes part, as a reminder that many pollinators depend on soil as well as on flowers. There is even a message from a solitary bee.

World Bee Day celebrates bees, and with them all the other pollinators that help keep our world alive: hoverflies, butterflies, moths, beetles, flies, wasps, birds and bats. The newsletter is available on the BUTTERFLY website.

On the same day, our team celebrated World Bee Day with the 12th Kindergarten of Volos, in a joint action of the sister projects RestPoll, BUTTERFLY and ProPollSoil.
